Research Objective
The main objective of the research was to evaluate the flooding effects caused by the change in morphology of the channel within the Door Creek Watershed. The following three sub-objectives will be taken into consideration to achieve this main objective.
Estimation of Discharge Rates The first sub-objective of research was to estimate the discharge rates throughout the Door Creek Watershed. There was only one gauge in Door Creek, located at Highway MN. The readings from this gauge would not provide enough information on the flow at various locations within the Door Creek Watershed, therefore software using hydrologic methods were required.
Characterize Stream Morphology The next sub-objective was to characterize the stream morphology prior to any alterations. There was no existing data that defined the channel's historical shape therefore the configuration of the channel would have to be drawn using historical aerial photos.
Evaluate Flooding Impacts
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) did not have any hydraulic information pertaining to Door Creek, therefore the third sub-objective of the proposed research will look developing a model which will may evaluate flooding conditions under various storm events.
